Frequently Asked Questions

What is weekly holiday allowance (주휴수당)?

Weekly holiday allowance is a legally mandated paid day off for workers who complete all scheduled work days in a week and work at least 15 hours per week. It's calculated as: hourly wage × (weekly hours ÷ 40) × 8 hours.

How is overtime pay calculated in Korea?

Overtime pay in Korea is calculated at 1.5 times the regular hourly wage. This applies to work exceeding 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week under the Labor Standards Act.

How is night shift pay calculated?

Night shift pay (for work between 22:00 and 06:00) is an additional 50% of the regular hourly wage, making it 1.5 times the base rate. If night work is also overtime, the rate becomes 2.0 times.

How It's Calculated

Weekly pay calculation includes:

1. Base Pay = Hourly Wage × Weekly Regular Hours (up to 40 hours) 2. Overtime Pay = Hourly Wage × 1.5 × Overtime Hours (hours exceeding 40/week) 3. Weekly Holiday Allowance (주휴수당): If you work 15+ hours/week consistently, you receive 1 additional paid day. Weekly Holiday Pay = Hourly Wage × (Weekly Hours / 40) × 8 hours

Total Weekly Pay = Base Pay + Overtime Pay + Weekly Holiday Allowance

For night work (10 PM–6 AM), an additional 50% premium applies. Holiday work also carries a 50% premium, stackable with overtime and night premiums.

⚠️ Disclaimer

Overtime and premium pay rules may differ for workplaces with fewer than 5 employees. Weekly holiday allowance eligibility requires consistent weekly hours of 15 or more. Verify your specific entitlements with the Ministry of Employment and Labor (1350).
