Frequently Asked Questions
What is VAT (Value Added Tax)?
VAT is a consumption tax placed on a product whenever value is added at each stage of the supply chain, from production to the point of sale. In Korea, the standard VAT rate is 10%.
How do I calculate VAT from a supply amount?
Multiply the supply amount by the VAT rate. For 10% VAT: Supply Amount × 0.1 = VAT. Total = Supply Amount + VAT. Example: ₩100,000 supply → ₩10,000 VAT → ₩110,000 total.
How do I reverse-calculate supply amount from total?
Divide the total amount by (1 + VAT rate). For 10% VAT: Supply Amount = Total ÷ 1.1. Example: ₩110,000 total → ₩100,000 supply + ₩10,000 VAT.
When do I need to file VAT returns?
In Korea, VAT is filed semi-annually with preliminary returns. General taxpayers file 4 times a year: Jan 25, Apr 25, Jul 25, Oct 25. Simplified taxpayers file twice: Jan 25 and Jul 25.

How It's Calculated
Korea's standard VAT rate is 10%.
• Forward calculation (supply price → total): VAT = Supply Price × 10%. Total = Supply Price + VAT = Supply Price × 1.1
• Reverse calculation (total → supply price): Supply Price = Total ÷ 1.1. VAT = Total − Supply Price = Total ÷ 11
The calculator handles both directions instantly and displays all three values: supply price, VAT amount, and total (VAT-inclusive price). It also supports batch calculation for multiple items.
