BMI Calculator
Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) to check your weight category.
About This Tool
The BMI Calculator computes your Body Mass Index based on your height and weight, helping you understand where you fall on the underweight-to-obese spectrum. It is widely used by individuals, fitness enthusiasts, and healthcare professionals as a quick screening tool for weight-related health risks.
How It's Calculated
BMI is calculated using the formula: BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². For imperial units, the formula is: BMI = [weight (lb) ÷ height (in)²] × 703.
The result is classified into standard WHO categories: Underweight (< 18.5), Normal weight (18.5–24.9), Overweight (25.0–29.9), and Obese (≥ 30.0). For Asian populations, adjusted thresholds are often used, where overweight begins at 23.0 and obese at 25.0, reflecting differences in body composition and associated health risks.
While BMI is a useful population-level indicator, it does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass, so athletes with high muscle mass may show elevated BMI values despite having low body fat.
